Where is the Queen Quadrangle?  What is the difference between an “Open Three” and an “Open Four”?  What is a “split four”?  We’ve compiled a glossary to familiarize you with Quinto’s most commonly used terms and phrases.

One-Color Kings

A variation of Quinto in which the Wild Kings are
limited by color.
Open Three Three of the same color chips in a row with an open space on either side.
Open Four Four of the same color chips in a row with an open space on either side.
 
Pair Two contiguous chips of the same color.
Passing Instead of playing a card, the player elects to discard an unwanted card and pick up a replacement card.
 
Quick Quinto® This occurs when a player, during his/her turn, plays five cards (or four if Bonus spaces are used) in his/her hand which would form an immediate Quinto. Black Kings may be used.  All of the spaces must be open.  Quick Quintos are worth double points.
Quinto® Five of the same color chips placed in a row (contiguously), aligned either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally on the playing board.
 
Quinto 500 The Standard version of Quinto (see "Standard Play")
 
Quintology Refers to the language of Quinto® which is a collection of commonly used Quinto terms, descriptions, and phrases.
 
Quinto Etiquette Players must not show their cards to their teammates, nor communicate to them about any specific cards in the player's hand
Quinto Hearts A strategically challenging and defensive version of Quinto in which the use of spaces containing hearts is prohibited.
 
Quinto Head A person who is addicted to Quinto®.  Counseling is recommended.
 
Queen Quadrangle The center four squares of the Quinto® playing board in which the Queen of Spades and Queen of Diamonds are found.
 
Round A round is over when a total of three Quintos are obtained (combined from both teams).  The board is cleared and the cards are reshuffled.  Several rounds are necessary in order to reach 500 points.
Royal Axis The two diagonal axes that run through the center of the Quinto® playing board containing all face cards, i.e., queens and jacks.
 
Royal Quinto® This Quinto, which is worth 65 points, uses the four face cards and the Bonus corner and is found in the center diagonal axis.
 
Split Three Three of the same color chips in a row with an open space in between.
Split Four Four of the same color chips with an open space in between.
 
Starter Chip One chip on the playing board that is not connected to any other chip of the same color.
 
Triple Quinto® Three Quintos are formed simultaneously using one chip. Extra points are attained (see Table 2, Quinto Point Values).
Unplayable Card A card that cannot be played because there are no corresponding open spaces on the board.
